The patients were examined through 75 gr, 2-hour oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT), computed tomography (CT), dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) for measuring body composition, bioelectric impedance analysis (BIA) for the amounts of water in the body, proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy (1H-MRS) for intramyocellular lipids (IMCL) and intrahepatic lipids (IHL) in the muscle and liver, and GH releasing hormone (GHRH) – arginine stimulation test.

Following the aforementioned screening tests, the patients were injected with 4 micrograms/kg of recombinant GH subcutaneously every day and asked to visit the clinic for the next 3 weeks, 6 weeks, 9 weeks, 3 months, and 6 months, some of whom received a placebo instead.

The results were that the women did have mild fluid retention, joint pain, muscle ache, congested nose, back pain, burning sensations on their hands, temporary rising glucose, and headache, but none of them got fatal consequences. HGH also reduced their LDL and abdominal fat and increased their muscle and lean body mass.
